Abronye DC granted ₵100k bail with 2 sureties

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been granted bail of ¢100,000 with two sureties.

Abronye DC was put before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday after being charged with publication of false news, offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace.

Mr Baffoe claimed that the 2020 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, had planned to stage a coup against the government.

According to media reports, the NPP communicator made the claim on Hot 93.9 FM in Accra, while responding to the arrest of #FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, who also threatened to stage a coup should the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) be passed after the Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu celebrated his 65th birthday with an E-levy-designed cake.

In view of this, he was invited for questioning on Tuesday, February 15, at the Police Headquarters to assist with investigations.

Abronye DC was subsequently arrested. The Police in a statement revealed that the NPP regional chairman failed to substantiate his claims.
