‘We’re aware NPP is unpopular now; we’ll change that before 2024 polls’ – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, a former Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the EIU research forecasting the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) triumph over the NPP in the general elections of 2024 does not surprise him.

In a five-year prognosis for Ghana, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a London-based economic and political analyst, predicted that the NDC will win the next general elections.

The EIU, on the other hand, anticipates the NDC to nominate a new presidential candidate in addition to former President John Dramani Mahama.

Nana Akomea, commenting on the article on Citi TV’s Parliamentary news magazine show The Chamber, said it is “interesting, but not shocking.”

According to him, the NPP is fully aware that if an election is held “under the current conditions,” it would lose.

He is optimistic, however, that the party would reclaim Ghanaians’ confidence and “break the eight” by 2024.

“Everyone in this nation, including the NPP, is fully aware that, given the present conditions, the NPP would not be the most popular party if an election is conducted now.”

“Fortunately for us, there will be no elections today. We still have over two years left, which gives us plenty of opportunity to address the present problems and regain the trust of the majority of people. As a result, we are unconcerned about any such story,” he continued.
