Burna Boy Becomes The Most Streamed Artiste On Boomplay With Over 400 Million Plays

Burna Boy has chalked up a historic 400 million streams on the Boomplay music streaming platform—becoming the first-ever African artist to score this milestone.

The new achievement comes barely a month after the Grammy award-winning Nigerian afrobeats artiste was celebrated as the second recording and performing African musician, after Kizz Daniel, to hit the 300 million streams milestone on Africa’s most demanding streaming platform and also arrives just days after his latest album “Love, Damini” clocked the 100 million streams mark on the platform.

Burna Boy is followed by Kizz Daniel, who currently has 350 million streams, and Fireboy and Omah Lay, who have all surpassed the 250 million streams of this industry-recognized standard.

The growth of the Grammy award winner has been exponentially upturned since the release of the Outside album, which currently stands at 15 million streams. His follow-up album, African Giant, which was critically acclaimed and nominated for the Grammys, now has over 57 million streams, and his 2020 Grammy-winning album Twice As Tall stands at over 102 million streams. He is one of the biggest names in music to come out of Africa in recent years. The significant growth in his Boomplay numbers indicates his broadening fanbase.

Boomplay has the most extensive catalogue of African music with over 70 million tracks at the moment and 65 million monthly active users. It is pertinent to note that this will not be the first time the African giant will dominate the streaming numbers for the Nigerian music industry, and with Burna Boy’s knack for creating monster hits, this will not be the last.
