Fast-rising Nigerian-American artist, Teemanay shares his recent video interview with the popular American media platform HipHopDX.
During the conversation, Jeremy Hecht talks to the Delta State, Nigeria-native singer-songwriter about his earliest memory, the first song he wrote, travelling to different
countries (South Africa and North America) in pursuit of jumpstarting his musical career after attending medical school, and how he met the global superstar AKON.
Delving deeper into his life, Teemanay revealed how he kept busy during the pandemic, his first attendance at the GRAMMYs this year in Las Vegas, Nevada, and how they made their joint EP. The lead single from the project Konvict Kulture Presents Teemanay is āGo Girlā, produced by Spellz. It debuted at Burna Boyās concert in Detroit, Michigan, at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre on July 21, where Teemanay performed it live to a sold-out crowd (6,000 capacity). Two days later, Teemanay performed it again during his headlining set at AKONās Jollof, Music & Food Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 4-track EP feature AKON on 3 records āSelfishā (Spellz), āKillin Meā (Jaylon) and āGo Girlā (Spellz); the last record finds the Nigerian artist singing over a self-produced acoustic with guitar played by Ligero. The full projectāKonvict Kulture Presents Teemanayāis available on all streaming platforms. It was mixed and mastered by Konvict Kultureās in-house producer Matt Weiss and executive produced by AKON.
Teemanay attended the Negris LeBrum Spring-Summer 2023 show at New York Fashion Week and sat in the front row. His song āGo Girlā played before the statuesque models ripped the runway.
The Delta State, Nigeria-native rising star has travelled the world (Lagos, Johannesburg and New York City) to find himself as an artist with what he describes as āvocal dexterityā. Regarding self-reflection, Teemanay views himself as someone who makes āAfro-Switchā music, āa modern Afrobeat genre with an influence of Urban RnB and Caribbean sound.ā
Before now, Teemanay released a debut EP called āTimelessā, and his single āKill Demā has earned over two million streams. He has also headlined an Afrobeats festival at the Schomburg Center of Museum of Arts in 2018 and 2019.
