Some Ghanaians on social media have expressed their views after the Blackstars were paired against Uruguay in Friday’s Qatar 2022 World Cup draw.
What makes the draw interesting is the unique history Ghana hasdexpecially with Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup hosted in South Africa.
Then, Black Stars were on the verge of becoming the first African team to reach the last four of the quadrennial showpieces before losing in penalties to Uruguay.
The defeat was made more painful by the fact that Ghana had a penalty in the final seconds of extra time after Luis Suarez of Uruguay used his hand to keep out Dominic Adiyiah’s goal bound header.
Although Suarez was sent off for his unsporting act and Ghana awarded a penalty, Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s top goal top scorer in the World Cup at that time missed from the spot.
Uruguay eventually won the game on penalties to progress to the semi-final of the World Cup at the expense of Ghana
The latest draw had seen some Ghanaians on Twitter reminisce Asamoah Gyan, post 2010 World Cup.
One User by name, Wode Maybe said, “We need a revenge against Uruguay but can we have Asamoah Gyan back since Suarez is playing”.
Another user, Skater Bo…. revealed that, “If Asamoah Gyan just scored that penalty, Ghanaians won’t be here talking about revenge”.
Gob3 2cedis added that ” the revenge is incomplete without Asamoah Gyan. It is a battle between Asamoah Gyan and Asamoah Gyan not Afena Gyan,”
Alberta Nat Hyde, popularly known as Bongo ideas who got bashed by Nana Aba Anamoah for disgracing public figures on his Twitter handle tweeted that,
“Asamoah Gyan should be considered as a FIFA Legend ahead of Jay Jay Okotcha. Gyan is Africa’s top scorer at the World Cup. That makes him a legend”.
One Daniel Koranteng however called on the management team of the Black Stars to include Asamoah Gyan purposely for the Uruguay game.
“Asamoah Gyan should be included in the squad purposely for the Uruguay game”.
But can Asamoah play Uruguay? Time will tell.
