Stonebwoy, Fameye, Wizkid, MOG Beatz, Bosom Pyung, Joshua Moszi, and more were amongst the winners awarded on Friday (May 6) during the first night of the 23rd annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAS).

Stonebwoy, a Ghanaian reggae, dancehall and afropop artist, returned to the scheme to claim his first award after missing out on two seasons. He was heralded with a ā€œMusic For Goodā€ award for his song ā€œGreedy Menā€. According to the organizers, the song addressed societal problems and was themed on social and developmental issues.

Greedy Men was released in November of 2021. With the song, Stonebwoy spoke out against the countryā€™s expanding peril heavily carried out by Chinese nationals, illegal mining, and also painted a realistic image of what itā€™s like to be a Ghanaian living in or near mining areas. After its release, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, commended Stonebwoy for speaking out against illicit gold mining in Ghana.

In other categories, ā€œPraiseā€ by Fameye earned the ā€œSongwriter of the Yearā€ award for containing original lyrics and music compositions, while Grammy award-winning record producer, Joshua Moszi, won in the Best Instrumentalist of the Year category for having the most outstanding live instrumental performance on critically acclaimed projects that were released in the year under review.

Wizkid, MOG Beatz, Kwaisey Pee, Niiela, and Bosom P Yung nabbed prizes for Best African Artiste of the Year, Producer of the Year, Best Male Vocal Performance of the Year, Best Female Vocal Performance, and Best Video of the Year, respectively. Nii Tettey Tetteh was crowned as the Best Traditional Artiste of the Year.

AsideĀ celebrating nominees, winners, and outstanding creators working behind the scenes, the night witnessed distinguished live musical performances from music phenom Samini, singer Wendy Shay, highlife artiste Kofi Kinaata, rappers: Amerado, Lyrical Joe and Obibini. Current Unsung winner, Gambo, also had a slot on the performance roster.
