We must find ways of building affordable houses – Akufo-Addo to stakeholders

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his dissatisfaction with Ghana’s high hotel costs.

According to him, the country’s housing need can never be solved if home prices continue to rise.

Nana Akufo-Addo called for a joint effort between the government and the private sector to solve the problem of housing at a meeting with members of the Ghana Chamber of Construction.

“I heard a little three-bedroom home in East Legon in Ghana costs between $354,000 and $500,000.” In many locations of the United States, mansions are available for that price. Because the materials used for building in the UK are local and extremely inexpensive, you can buy a pretty well-appointed house for between $100,000 and $200,000.”

“We need to figure out how to construct solid, low-cost homes in the country.”

Housing project in Salemi
The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration started the development of the Saglemi Affordable Housing project at Prampram in the Greater Accra Region’s Ningo Prampram District in 2012.

The building was supposed to be a 5000-unit residential complex to help with the country’s housing needs.

It has one to three-bedroom apartments for low-income people on a 300-acre plot of land.

The first phase of the $200 million projects included the building of 180 blocks with roughly 1,500 apartments.

Following years of neglect, the project became a source of contention shortly after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) came to power.
