Brooklyn Museum Exhibition To Celebrate Virgil Abloh’s Legacy

The legacy left behind by Virgil Abloh can be seen across the globe, from runways in Paris to a skatepark in Ghana. The latest tribute to his vision can be seen at the Brooklyn Museum beginning in summer 2022 with a show titled Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech.”

According to the museum’s announcement of their 2022 schedule, “Figures of Speech” will mark “the first museum survey exhibition devoted to the late artist and designer Virgil Abloh.” Serving as a reinvigoration of a solo show of the same name that Abloh put on at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art in 2019, Brooklyn Museum will feature a variety of content ranging from fashion and sculpture to video and immersive spaces to examine and celebrate the trajectory of Abloh’s unforgettable career.

As a generation-defining creative who reshaped conceptions of streetwear, Blackness, fashion commerce, and youth culture, many can attest to the impact the late designer had on both the industry as well as their own personal trajectories. “The way he operated never failed to blow me away – the way that he found time for everyone, and maintained the same genuine level of enthusiasm for seeing the creative output of young creatives as he did cultural legends. I learned a huge amount from him, and I am one of many, many people who will carry those lessons with me forever,” Olivia Singer, global editorial director of i-D Magazine, shared with Teen Vogue.

With the announcement of this upcoming homage to the Off-White designer, these lessons from Abloh’s life and career can continue to be discovered. Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” opens at the Brooklyn Museum on July 1, 2022.
