As festivals return while the COVID-19 variant continues to surge, the government of Ghana has outlined requirements and guidelines to control and avoid the spread of COVID-19 within the December festivities.
When the festivals reopen in December, event organizers will require proof of full vaccination from employees and event-goers, according to Honourable Mark Okraku Mantey, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, who spoke as a guest on local radio Hitz 103.9 FM. This will ensure that patrons at party venues and festival grounds remain COVID-free.
“Vaccination cards will be required to enter, you must show that you have been vaccinated to be able to enter,” he said and added that “age five and above would require a mask. Masks would be removed for special activities like eating and drinking”.
“We want to keep you and your siblings and your family alive,” the Deputy Tourism Minister said on Hitz 103.9 FM on Thursday, explaining the requirements. “If we should come together at a particular place, especially indoor events, and we do not put some checks and balances in place, we’re likely to have challenges after December.”
This isn’t only a prerequisite for mega-festivals. Vaccination documentation will be required for access to clubs, theaters, and festivals around the country, he added.
