Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ isn’t coming anytime soon, according to the creator.

According to Hwang Dong-hyuk, Netflix’s extremely popular series Squid Game will not receive a second season until late next year or potentially even 2024.

Squid Game creator/director/writer Dong-hyuk revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that he is now in talks with Netflix regarding Season 2 and has “three pages worth of ideas that he hopes to put into a screenplay.” He’s keeping quiet about the new episodes, but says they’ll appear by the end of 2023 at the earliest.

“Those games are going to put humanity to the test once again,” he hinted. In terms of the upcoming episodes, he said that Gi-hun will return, and the mysterious Front Man may play a bigger part this time around. Season 2 was discreetly confirmed by Netflix in January, with no indication of when viewers might expect the show to return.

“The success of Season 1 has put a lot of pressure on me, and I’m having nightmares about the reaction for Season 2 not being as positive,” Hwang Dong-hyuk said to Deadline. He has said that he aims to premiere Season 2 by Halloween 2024. The South Korean survival series has been a huge hit for Netflix, swiftly becoming the most-watched program on the site inside its first 28 days.

Dong-hyuk has a lot on his plate right now, as Deadline claims that he’s working on a parody based on the popularity of Squid Game. The project’s working title is The Best Show on the Planet, but because it’s still in the early phases, it might change. He claimed the program would be a satirical take on the great success of Squid Game, which rocketed him and the rest of the cast to worldwide prominence in an instant.
