The Taliban government in Afghanistan calls for de-escalation in violence

The Taliban government in Afghanistan, which recently mounted a military coup of the country’s previous leadership, has called on Russia and Ukraine to resolve their differences using dialogue.

It said it will remain neutral in the conflict, but adds it is worried about the prospect of civilian casualties.

After the fall of Kabul last August, hundreds of thousands of people fled Afghanistan in fear.
